Apollo Mission Control Restoration
Johnson Space Centre, Houston, TX
I was responsible for creating the content displayed on the large screens and time counters comprising the front wall of the mission control room. Referencing archival footage, photography and input from the flight controllers themselves (now in their 80’s) I helped transport the room back to 1969 during five iconic moments of the Apollo 11 mission. Graphs, plotted trajectory data, maps and hand drawn images were digitally re-illustrated and animated to be as close to archival records and living memory as possible.
All visuals, including archival footage, are synchronized to a restored audio mix of flight controller and astronaut communications. Present day Gene Kranz (flight director of the Apollo 11 mission) narrated the experience, providing context and preparing viewers for each recreated moment from history.
I am honoured to receive recognition from the Texas Historical Commission for my contribution to the restoration of Apollo Mission Control.
It was a great privilege to bring one of the most exciting stories in American (and human) history to life.
